Isn’t summer supposed to be the time of year when things slow down? Yes, that used to be the case once upon a time. Now summer has morphed into this second gear of programming and events —  a time when the locals expect to be as entertained as the snowbirds during season. And such is the case at the Spady Museum.

It started in June with the Juneteenth Celebration. More than 100 people gathered around the pool and under the tiki hut at Crane’s BeachHouse in Delray Beach to enjoy food, drinks, live music and a great raffle. The Spady Museum raised more than $6,100 for programming and events. Thanks to sponsors Waste Management and Arts Radio Network for their support.

Next up is the Spady Family Fun Day. Children (and those who used to skip the hydrant) are invited to a slipping and sliding kind of fun in the big ‘backyard’ of the museum. Water games, South Florida heat and the natural craziness that comes with children will be on display. The whole community is welcomed to join in the fun in July.

And while all of this is going on, planning is going on fast and furious for the 2012-13 cultural season. Expect to welcome back the uber-popular “Ride and Remember” Trolley Tour, the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast and the Connecting Community and Culture lecture series. Whew!
